The Special Election in Massachusetts, Why Democrats Will (Likely) Lose, and Why it isn't a Bad Thing: In the special election today in Massachusetts, a new senator will be selected to fill the recently deceased Kennedy's seat. This race is between (D) Martha Coakley and (R) Scott Brown (and the token independent, Joseph Kennedy, no relation). As of Sunday, a poll showed Brown with a full 9 point lead over Coakley. Why did this happen? It's largely the same reason that Al Gore lost to Bush. The people find Brown more appealing than Coakley. Coakley has, on multiple occasions, failed to take advantage of opportunities to better her campaign.

     Americanism used to mean great things: peaceful and diplomatic, smart, diverse and most importantly, united. We used to be a great, united nation, but as the years have gone on, we’ve lost sight about what Americanism really was all about.
